Clinicore is committed to making clinicorediagnostics.com usable by everyone, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification, or other assistive technology.

This is an obligation under the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, and it is also just how a site that carries clinical information ought to work.

We build to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA.

What that means in practice on this site

Several of these were deliberate decisions during the rebuild rather than afterthoughts, and they are worth naming because they are the ones that most often go wrong on a laboratory site:

  • No specification is locked inside an image. Every reportable range, assay cutoff, panel composition and table on this site is real text — readable by a screen reader, selectable, and findable by search. Reference ranges published as pictures are a common and serious accessibility failure, and this site does not do it.
  • Every image and diagram carries a description. The eleven original diagrams each have a written title and description, not a filename.
  • The site works without JavaScript. The test catalog renders its full list and the pages read normally; only the search filter needs scripting, and it is an enhancement rather than a requirement.
  • Colour is not the only carrier of meaning. Where the diagrams use green to mark an active or potent species, the label says so too.
  • Light and dark themes both meet contrast requirements, and the site follows the setting your device already has.
  • Visible focus on every interactive element, and a skip link to the main content.
  • Reduced motion is respected where the system preference is set.

Where we know we fall short

An honest accessibility statement names the gaps rather than claiming none.

  • The explanatory video has no captions or transcript yet. It is a supplement to text that appears on the same page, so nothing is lost by skipping it — but captions are owed and are planned.
  • Downloadable PDFs are supplied as-is. The Clinical Science Reviews and requisition forms are offered as PDFs alongside the HTML. The HTML version is the accessible one and is always the canonical version; the PDFs have not been remediated for screen reader use.

This site is assessed by a combination of automated testing and manual keyboard and screen reader review. Accessibility is checked as part of publishing rather than as a periodic audit — a page that fails does not ship.
